Are you looking for a fun & educational way to celebrate your child’s first period?

Let’s throw a Period Party!

What is a Period Party?

AND WHY SHOULD I THROW ONE?

Glad you asked! A period party is a fun and empowering gathering where folks come together to celebrate all things menstrual. It's a chance to destigmatize periods, foster open conversation, and create a supportive community around menstruation. Plus, it's an excuse to throw a fabulous bash and let loose with your friends!

What’s Involved in a Period Party?

From games and activities to delicious treats and themed decorations, the possibilities are endless when it comes to planning your period party. Here are a few ideas to get the party started:

  1. Period Power Playlist: Create a killer playlist filled with empowering anthems and period-themed tunes to set the mood for the party.

  2. Menstrual Trivia: Test your guests' period knowledge with a fun game of menstrual trivia. From facts to pop culture references, there's plenty to learn and laugh about.

  3. Menstrual Product Demos: In this fun demonstration, I’ll pull out my period purse and share a variety of period products and how to use them, so your kiddo can make more informed decisions about what they’d like to use as period protection.

  4. Period Positivity Wall: Set up a wall or bulletin board where guests can write positive affirmations or messages about menstruation. It's a great way to spread love and positivity around periods.

  5. Period-themed Treats: Whip up some delicious treats inspired by menstruation, like red velvet cupcakes, strawberry smoothies, or raspberry-filled chocolates. Who said periods couldn't be delicious?

  6. Menstrual Care Packages: Put together care packages filled with period essentials like pads, tampons, chocolate, and cozy socks. It's a thoughtful gesture that shows you care about your guests' comfort during their time of the month.

It's also about promoting menstrual health and empowerment, fostering open conversation, and challenging period stigma. By creating a safe and supportive space to talk about periods, you're helping to break down barriers and empower folks to embrace their bodies and their cycles.

Funny Fact

While looking up fun things about Period Parties, I was reminded of this hilarious, and incredible bit from Comedian Bert Kreischer (The Machine).

“Celebrating the onset of menstruation kicked into the mainstream back in 2018 when comedian Bert Kreischer told the story of how he threw his daughter a period party on Conan. Two years later, the trend has caught on and it’s only growing.

Kreischer humorously recounted how his second daughter had called him from school when she first got her period.

The father of two felt a little unsteady, but he made a good call and asked her if she needed anything. She did, but it wasn’t what he expected. Kreischer’s preteen daughter asked him to go out and buy a red velvet cake because ten friends were coming over that night for her period party. Dad got the cake and now he’s encouraging families out there to get on board and celebrate their daughters’ transitions into womanhood in a similar way.” Source.

Bert isn’t the first, or last person to throw a period party for his teen. At Heather’s Holistics, I believe in throwing a party for your child that helps them feel heard & supported. I teach menstrual education that is inclusive and non-judgemental. Anyone is welcome to join the period party, so long as the newest member of the Red Moon Gang feels safe with them there.
